Charlie's preschool class hosted a 'mother's day tea' yesterday. They gave us invitations on Monday, and we showed up to find a beautifully decorated table for us moms to sit at. The kids were lined up to sing their little concert and that's when Jake hit Charlie and Charlie told on him, and Mrs. Cruz-Torres said, "Jake, we don't hit." And Jake said, "Well, Charlie said 'poop'." And Mrs. Cruz-Torres said, "Charlie, we don't need to say poop right now." Then, they started the first song: 'You are my mommy-sunshine' and Charlie started crying. (I think he was embarrassed that he got in trouble with all those mommy eyes watching, but how sad is it when all the other kids are joyfully singing with the motions and he's tearing up?) So, he ended up sitting with me and watching the other kids perform. That was the best I could do to 'make him happy when he is sad' (like the song says...) in that moment. Apparently, the cookies and tea that were served after the performance also worked in making him happy.
So, the mother's day tea turned from sour to sweet.
