big boy bed

We have been reluctant to move Charlie from the crib to a 'big boy bed' because he wasn't climbing out and friends let us have their crib set for Ethan, so there wasn't an urgent need. I even asked his pediatrician if I was stunting his developmental growth by not moving him to a bed. (The answer was no.) It seemed like such a daunting task. All the girls at my MOPS table have 2 year olds and only one had moved their son to a bed with not much success. Another of my friends' 2 year old was climbing out so she had to move him to a bed and he would cry at the bedroom door at bedtime, which broke my heart. I'm already not getting enough sleep as it is, because our chunky baby doesn't think he has enough stored up to get through the night, so I didn't want to complicate things. With that all said...we did it anyway. I think the deciding factor was that we've had the bed for a while taking up room in the garage and Chris wanted it gone. I am so proud to say that we told Charlie to stay in his bed and call us to come get him when he wakes up... and he has! Chris thinks he feels secure that the 'rules' are the same as his crib was (very insightful, honey!) We had a few setbacks when he fell out of the bed 2 nights in a row, but a bed rail has solved that problem. Now if we could just tell Ethan to sleep through the night and he would listen, everyone in this house would be well rested.

Oh my gosh, I posted this same entry this week on my blog! I was so nervous about the thought of Malia roaming the house while we were sleeping, but she was jumping out of her crib repeatedly and she thought it was funny! So before any injuries occurred we made the switch and she surprisingly is doing great. She knows to wait for us to come get her when she wakes up, the first few days required going in laying her back down saying good night and leaving and eventually she got the idea that she needs to sleep in her new bed. I hope Charlie keeps up the good habit as well.
