I say 'book signing' loosely...

On Thursday night I went to a book signing.  I had never been to one before, so not knowing what to expect, I showed up.  It was for a cookbook by a blogger whose recipes I drool over. (& all 3 recipes that I have made have been delicious!)  I didn't think there would be THAT MANY people there...she's not famous; 'just a blogger'.  HA!  I went out to eat with my girlfriends before, so we showed up right on time to find the parking lot full.  Not a good sign.  Then we moseyed on in to the bookstore toting our pre-ordered through amazon books to find masses of people and no order to the chaos.  I don't know how we got lucky enough to find a spot where we could actually see Ree as she discussed her book and answered questions.  We spotted people holding tickets and bugged a cashier girl as to how to get some of those.  The ticket system went like this:  The first people to get to the bookstore and buy the book there got letters A and so on which was their group to stand in line for the book sign.  Those who bought books ahead of time were last.  Oops.  So much for saving 15 bucks.  The peppy cashier girl said, "Don't worry.  She will stay to sign everyone's book.  She was in Salt Lake until 1:30 a.m. last night."  What?!  At that moment, we realized we would not be getting our books signed after all.  Then the announcement came that people with young children could go with the first group.  Dang it!  Should've brought those rascals!  We left soon after my friend Sarah tried to start a fight with a lady in line with 'tweens'.  Sarah said, "Didn't they say people with small children could get in line?"  And the lady with the big kids yelled, "They said people WITH CHILDREN."  Let's not get crazy people.  We can all go home and make the skillet cornbread with or without our books signed.
