"Family Worship Night"

(That's what we're calling our version of family devotions.)
With Charlie being almost 3, we decided to put our vision into action.
Chris & I have talked to a lot of families about what works for them and how they make learning about the Bible exciting for their kids and we came up with our version through bits and pieces of other families' ideas. We are calling ours 'worship night' because we want our kids to see us responding to God's word and worshiping Him with them (as opposed to just listening to our instruction).
We put aside one night a week (we're not the Duggars...and you have to start somewhere!)
Since Charlie seems to grasp stories now, we decided to focus on key Biblical stories this year.
I just assumed we'd do a new story each week, but Chris in all his children's pastor wisdom suggested we focus on one story each month and repeat it weekly for Charlie to grasp it.

So this month it's all about Noah.
Last week, we read the story in Charlie's Bible and I had a big bowl of animal crackers that we had to find 2 of each kind...
This week we read the story again and played animal charades.
We've been playing the 'arky arky' song...over and over...
We've been repeating this verse:
"And Noah did all that the Lord commanded him." (Genesis 7:5)
Next week we plan on building some sort of ark.
The final week- painting rainbows.

I'm starting to like Chris' suggestion even more because it's easy to remember to talk about Noah every day and really impress the story on Charlie who now gets the gist:
"Noah listened to God. But Adam and Eve didn't listen." -Charlie

Next month: Moses
Fun activities/ideas appreciated!
