Last Friday night, Chris made his mom's spaghetti sauce and it turned out to be a huge hit. The funny thing about this sauce is that Chris said his mom used to make it so much when he was a kid that he got immune to it goodness. Our kids loved it (thanks, Grandma!), so it can become one of dad's dinners to make from now on.
The recipe:
*It makes a lot, so we ended up freezing half the sauce for a future spaghetti night!
Ingredients:
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped
4 (16 oz) cans tomato sauce
1 24 oz can crushed tomatoes
salt & pepper
2 Tbsp. oregano
1 Tbsp. basil
3-4 Tbsp. chili powder
1 Tbsp. sugar
1 lb. ground turkey or beef
1 lb. ground italian sausage
Saute onions and garlic in olive oil. Add turkey and sausage to brown. Then add all other ingredients. The key ingredient is the chili powder to give it a kick in taste. Simmer for 1 hour.
