starting swim lessons...

Ethan's been watching Charlie at swim lessons for a long time now.
I say 'watching' loosely, because he used to sit on my lap and actually watch.
Lately, he has not been sitting quietly on my lap; he's been trying to get get in the water, so I decided it was time to start lessons.
Plus, summer is just around the corner and we go swimming a lot so, it will be nice to get a head start on some survival skills.
Mr. E has a mind of his own when it comes to lessons. He gladly participates in the bubble blowing, splashing and goldfish cracker eating. When it comes to staying seated on the step to wait his turn, he sometimes gets bored with that idea... so we've had a few falls off the step to where his coach (Matt) makes him assume the 'airplane' float position (which happens to be the other thing he doesn't like about swim lessons.) I'm glad it's not a mom & me class, because he practically claws Matt's face off during the airplane floats. Last week, Matt was out of town and he had a girl substitute instructor who sang sweet songs to him while floating, which seemed to calm him down some. Poor Matt tried that today and didn't know the words!

We got connected to Swimkids, when I took care of one of the coach's sweet son at my hospital. Their family has been incredible in continuing to give back to the oncology unit and the pain team at Cardon Children's. This weekend, Swimkids is hosting their annual 'Blake's Miracle Swim-a-thon'. I wish we could be there to participate, but I am working that day. :( But, if you are able to stop by on Saturday, you might see one of my cakes in the cake walk and all proceeds will go back to my hospital.
