This post is almost too sad to write. I actually wish I was sitting outside on my camp chair next to Chris, reading a good book in the crisp air with bugs circling around me as opposed to here in my air conditioned house and my comfy couch... but camp did not exactly go as planned this year.
It's usually one of the highlights of our summer. We love getting out of the heat, spending time with ministry friends we only get to see a few times a year and seeing God work in the hearts of kids as they learn more about Him.
*note this post when Charlie was lovin' camp at just 14 months old...
& we even went last year when I was super preggo, proving our extreme devotion to UCYC.
Skip to 2010:
Here's Ethan doing exactly what I expected him to do up there: finding any and every rock that would fit in his mouth. He also enjoyed crawling down the concrete ramp that's behind him, throwing sticks, and... guess who really liked camp food?! He couldn't get enough of it!
Here's my true happy camper who was so in his element this year. He was climbing rocks, making a fort, playing games, swimming in the cold pool, playing 'Charlie ball' (his version of carpet ball) and participating in chapel. Before we left, he picked out a Toy Story sleeping bag and was so excited to sleep in it. It broke my heart as I was driving him away from his favorite place EVER and he just asked so sweetly, "Mom- can we back to camp again...please?"
[P.S. I found those 'Happy Camper' shirts at Target. love 'em.]
Now- onto why I was one not-so happy Mama.
Well, I had prepared myself that it would be a lot of work with both of them but my 'nanny' (aka Jen) wasn't there this week and I need her.
And then, I felt nauseous Monday night. Went to bed early, thinking I probably didn't drink enough water, but woke up super sick around 11 p.m. and had to hike up to the bathroom to puke. After several more hikes to the bathroom and even a few moments sprawled on the cold cement floor of the camp bathroom because I felt so hot and clammy- I realized just how un-glamorous 'Roadrunner Row' (where we stay) actually is.
I felt better on Tuesday, but was depleted of energy and then the fear rushed over me that if one of the boys got sick while we were up there, that could be really ugly-
so we left early.
Sad.
