{almost} 4

  • he wears real undies to bed now
  • i love the way he says "syrup"
  • he wants to help make me make sandwiches for lunch everyday
  • his preschool teacher says "everyone wants to be friends with Charlie"
  • he loves swim lessons, but I think he likes the picnic lunch and seeing his friends more than actually swimming...
  • he talks me into '4' cookies, crackers, white pretzels...etc. because "I'm almost 4!"
  • he wants to know the name of every dinosaur (to which I don't know all the names...)
  • he asks me everyday, "where are we going today?"
  • he told a man in a wheelchair at the library last week, "I like you're wheel barrow!"
  • he thinks dora & diego are his friends
  • his favorite places to go are 'the train store' (aka Barnes & Noble), 'the gym', and any birthday party
  • he sits with me to read books without getting bored and is starting to sound out words
  • his favorite activity right now is riding his bike, although he's insistent on taking the training wheels off
  • he jumps on the bed
  • he wrestles his brother
  • he makes silly faces (specifically 'creepy eyes' and 'big eyes')
  • he sings along to a kids' worship cd in the car... music to my ears
  • he sits and watches football with Chris, wanting to know the name of each player
  • he likes to wear baseball hats
  • he always volunteers to pray at family meals
He is growing up fast. I can barely even bring myself to think he's "almost 4." He is getting so independent and I just feel like these preschool years are so fleeting.

I saw this book the other day at the 'train store' (aka Barnes & Noble)
and it brought tears to my eyes:
If I Could Keep You Little...

'If I could keep you little' -Marianne Richmond

"If I could keep you little,
I'd kiss your cuts & scrapes.
But then I'd miss you learning
from your own mistakes."

"If I could keep you little,
I'd decide on matching clothes.
But then I'd miss you choosing
dots on top & stripes below."

"If I could keep you little,
I'd keep you close to me.
But then I'd miss you growing up into
who you're meant to be."
