January {family worship night} theme:

This month, we've been reading about Daniel.
(particularly the part with the lion's den.)

memory verse: Daniel 6:27 "He rescues and saves; he performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on earth. He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions."

worship song: "Here I am to worship" (because Daniel bowed down to God even when there was a law against praying to anyone but the king...)

week #1: we acted out the story. Guess who liked being a scary lion and then thought it was so funny to be a "nice lion"?

week #2: games:

Not My Cub

Directions: Select a child to be the lion. Have the lion sit with her back to the other players at least ten feet away. Put a stuffed lion behind the child being the lion and pretend it is her cub. Have the other players take turns (one at a time) sneaking up behind the lion and trying to take the cub away. If the lion hears the person sneaking up, she can roar and then turn around. If the lion has caught a player, by tapping him on the shoulder, the tagged player takes the lion's place and becomes the new lion. She then goes back with the other players who have already been the lion. If there are no players left when the lion roars that child wins the game.

Daniel May I?

Directions: Similar to 'Mother may I'? but we changed the steps up a bit. We had "one lion step", "one king hop" or "one angel twirl". This one was a big hit, and we all took turns being 'Daniel'.

this week: we are making these lion cookies:

(aren't they cute? I found them on this blog.)
I also saw an idea to make lions out of crackers using spray cheese to make the mane and raisins as eyes, but I don't know if I want to expose them to easy cheese and distort their cheese perception!

week #4: If we're really ambitious, I found this lion noodle craft on this website that always good ideas:
lion activity sheet

& I found this song that seems fun to try:

Lions in The Den

Written by Nancy Foss
(
Sing to the tune of "The Wheels on the Bus")

The lions in the den go roar, roar, roar, roar, roar, roar, roar, roar, roar. Repeat. All day long.

Daniel's in the den praying to God, praying to God, praying to God. Repeat. All night long.

The lions in the den go snore, (9 times) Repeat. All night long.

Daniel's alive jump up and down (3 times) Daniel's alive jump up and down, turn around and sit down.
