cooking class
Yesterday my mom and I went to a cooking demonstration at Sweet Basil Gourmet Cooking School in Scottsdale. We've been wanting to try a class there for a while. I love new recipes and sometimes wonder if I missed my calling and should have gone to culinary school or should have become a florist instead of this nursing thing (these thoughts usually come after extra stressful days because I love my job 80% of the time...) Anyway the meal we learned was an herb crusted pork loin with a jalepeno jelly, potato and parsnip side dish and individual chocolate cakes with brandy whipped cream (yum!). The chef kept giving lots of tips through out the demonstration such as not letting the boiling water in the double boiler touch the chocolate or it could burn and not moving the meat in the hot olive oil while braising because it tears the outer layer of meat off (who knew?). We're thinking about going to the January demonstration of chicken and mushroom marsala and ricotta cheesecake. Any joiners?
