death, burial, and resurrection

How do you explain that to a 3 year-old?
Since it's only 4 weeks until Easter, we decided for FWN to focus on that.

One of our good friend's dad died in the Haiti earthquake and when we had him over for dinner, we explained to Charlie that his heart was hurting. Charlie immediately associated 'hurting' with an 'ouchie' and said, "We can get him a band-aid?" I replied, "We can't reach his heart; it is on the inside and it is sad." And Charlie said, "maybe God can give him a new heart."
[which of course melted my heart...]

We explained the story of Jesus' death in a similar way- where he got 'ouchies' on the cross and focused on the 'raised to life' part.
We used one of his little people to represent Jesus and had Charlie put a band-aid on him and wrap him with gauze. The tomb was the tunnel on his train table and I baked big cookies to represent the rock. We counted 3 days and rolled the 'rock' away. Where was Jesus? He was all better! He has risen!

Our worship song for the month is: 'Lord, I lift Your Name on High'

& I found this recipe for empty tomb cookies we are going to make the night before Easter!
